The Hidden Reason So Many People Feel Anxious, And How to Return to Calm

Updated: Mar 31

There is a quiet pattern running beneath modern life, one that explains why so many people feel overwhelmed, restless, unable to switch off, and constantly on edge. The level of anxiety today is unlike anything we have ever seen. It’s not just in the mind. It lives deep within the body, in the way the nervous system has been shaped by the world we now live in.

At the centre of this experience are two powerful systems that govern how we respond to life. The sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. These are not just scientific terms, they are the very rhythms that shape your energy, your emotions, your sleep, and your sense of safety in the world.

The sympathetic nervous system is your survival system. It is designed to activate when something requires your attention, when there is pressure, urgency, or a perceived threat. It increases your heart rate, sharpens your focus, and prepares your body to act. This is your fight-or-flight state, and it is essential for survival. But it was never designed to be switched on all the time!

The parasympathetic nervous system is your restoration system. This is where the body slows down, repairs, digests, and regenerates. It is the state where you feel calm, grounded, and safe. Your breath deepens, your body softens, and healing begins. This is where clarity returns, where sleep becomes restorative, and where you reconnect with yourself. T his is a very important state of being, especially whist the world in on high alert 24/7, and this is being broadcast into your awareness, non-stop.

In the past, stress was short-lived and physical. A challenge would arise, the body would respond, and then it would return to calm. Today, stress is constant, sometimes subtle, and often invisible. It comes through emails, social media, the news. Many people have expectations of what is coming, financial pressure, overstimulation, lack of connection, and a world that rarely slows down.

The nervous system doesn’t distinguish between a physical threat and a psychological one. It simply responds. And so, for many people, the body remains in a prolonged state of activation.

This is why anxiety has become so common. It is not simply a mental experience, it is the feeling of a nervous system that has forgotten how to switch off. When the body is stuck in sympathetic dominance, thoughts begin to race, the breath becomes shallow, sleep becomes disrupted, and there is a constant sense of urgency or unease. Calm can begin to feel unfamiliar, even uncomfortable, while stress becomes the new normal. This is when the body can get into real trouble.

But this is not because something is wrong with you. It is because your body has adapted to a world that is constantly asking it to stay alert.

The solution is not to suppress these feelings. It is to gently guide the body back into balance. To help the nervous system remember what safety feels like. When this happens, everything begins to shift. The mind becomes quieter, the body releases tension, sleep deepens, and emotional resilience returns. This is not about forcing calm, it's about restoring the body’s natural ability to regulate itself.

One of the most powerful systems involved in this process is the Endocannabinoid System, often referred to as the body’s master regulator. This system plays a key role in balancing stress, mood, inflammation, and nervous system activity. When supported correctly, it helps to soften the stress response, reduce internal pressure, and bring the body back into a state of equilibrium.

Rather than sedating the system, it works by teaching the body how to find its own balance again. This is where a new approach to anxiety begins. Not by overriding the body, but by working with it. Not by forcing change, but by creating the conditions for it.

When the nervous system is supported, through gentle regulation, intentional practices, and the right biological support, something remarkable happens. You begin to feel like yourself again. Clear, Calm, Present.

Grounded in your body, rather than caught in your thoughts.

This is the foundation of our approach. We don’t chase symptoms. We restore the system.

Because when the body feels safe, the mind follows.

If you would like to learn how to manage anxiety, take some time to sit and think about the places and people that make you feel safe. When you start to notice feelings of anxiety arise go to these safe places or reach out to those people to help calm your nervous system. Adopting an attitude of gratitude can also help. Taking time at the beginning and end of the day to count your blessings can also make a significant difference to your life (speaking from experience.)

We have also been getting great results with our Anxiety Support Pack + Protocol which was created to assist members of our community suffering with anxiety. In the last 18 months hundreds of people have come to us seeking assistance for this condition. It is exciting to witness the results in the faces of all who have chosen this path.

In love and health,

The Hemporium Crew
